Retrofit

The term retrofit generally refers to the modernization and retrofitting of existing plants and operating equipment.

Increasing digitalization and conversion to Industry 4.0, as well as increased safety requirements, often make adaptation of the existing machinery indispensable. Retrofitting often represents a more cost-effective and resource-saving alternative.

In addition to the potential cost savings, retrofitting enables the acquisition of previously unavailable machine and process data, which can contribute to an increase in energy efficiency and product quality, as well as to general process improvement through needs-based maintenance. The fulfillment of new legal requirements, such as machine safety for accident prevention, can also be achieved by means of appropriate retrofitting. Retrofitting can therefore be used for various reasons in the area of machines and systems in industry and production.
